Usually, games that do not support XP can be run without problems under XP with just a little editing of the EXE (most games still run under DirectX 9), but in the case of Trine 3, under XP you won't run it because it runs on DirectX 10.
Don't worry. There are no more skills, no items, no secrets in the game - nothing at all. It's impossible to develop heroes in general now. The story is short, and the ending is not over, but hints at a sequel.
The game is short, clumsy, buggy and downright boring compared to the previous installments. You have absolutely nothing to lose.
