Problem starting the game! Help! (Gothic 2)

When installed on Gothic 2: Gothic 2 - System Pack. The game gives an error during launch... Assertion Failed, Reason: illegal number of provider.

Yes, it's not about the license and the pirate. They are no different: there is no protection. It's just an old game - a new system. In the link above, software that adapts the game to new systems and fixes errors. But, yes, it's easier to download a repack - usually everything is set up there with all the software, if there are such repacks. But I got used to it myself, manually =)
