You probably didn't understand.
I created a separate squad, which itself walks on the map at the head of one companion. I approached him, through the dialogue I called his detachment of mercenaries, but there is no way to transfer one more companion from my companion to his detachment.

Try to meet with your squad, in the dialog choose to view the squad. And from your squad you transfer a companion to your companion's squad. Either that or not.
