To run games, it's not enough just to install an OS, you also need to install the necessary software to run games - DirectX, PhysX, NETFramework 2.0-4.5, Microsoft Visual C ++ 2005-2008-2010-2012-2013 and much more little things.
I have Borderlands 2 running in WIN XP SP3 and WIN7 with no issues.
