Trading Post Problem (Empire: Total War)

Something is not entirely clear. Your trade routes are only unprofitable if you don't trade with anyone (though I'm not sure about that), or if they are attacked. Either enemy countries or pirates can attack them. There is another option: if you trade with few people, and ALL your trading partners are attacked on the way. What can be done? If these are pirates, then there is only brute force, if the enemy countries - make peace, well, or also brute force. If they attack on the way of all those with whom you trade, then either wait until they calm down, or work as a kindergarten teacher. If it doesn’t help, write more specifically what happened, with a bunch of details.
