Problems with local play (Sid Meier's Civilization 5)

My brother and I decided to play locally. When we connect, we go into the game, we cannot find each other. There is each other in the list of players, we see each other's news, but even when we explore the whole map, we don't see each other. The feeling that, as in Heroes, we are sitting in different worlds.
