that their Slipknot style was stolen?
Yes Yes.

By the way, on topic:
Of all the Slipknot conflicts, this one is the most significant, violent and longest. In 1997, Cleveland band Mushroomhead were finally trying to get signed to a label. Among the contenders was Roadrunner Records. Mushroomhead sent them their promotional material: photos, posters, videos, albums. The label's managers took a long time to respond. But in 1998 they demanded new material from the group in order to make a final decision on the contract. At the time, Mushroomhead had just started recording their next album. And as soon as the raw material was ready (the upcoming album "M3") they sent it to Roadrunner Rec. Imagine their surprise when the label replied that they were no longer interested in them, as the contract was signed with another masked band (Slipknot).

Cleveland musicians were even more surprised when they saw who stole their contract. Slipknot wore the same overalls. Bassist Paul Gray wore a pig mask, as did Mushroomhead bassist Jack Kilcoin. DJ Sid wore a gas mask, as did Mushroomhead drummer Steve Felton. And Jim Root wore the mask of a sex shop masochist, as did Mushroomhead dancer Marko Vukcevic.

Mushroomhead reacted to this situation in the most reasonable way, deciding to radically change their image. Masquerade costumes were replaced with black or gray military camouflages, and masks with the same type of black X-Face masks. And in retaliation, the song Xeroxed was placed on the M3 album (Xeroxed)

Then in another song there was a hint of Slipknot. On the XIII album, you can find this line in the song "Our Own Way" (Our own way) - Despised imitators plagiarized, but dictatorial claims are false

. There was no conflict between the groups, as such, at first. Everything was fan-made. However, not just like that. Sean Crahan said in an interview that Mushroomhead sucks. This was the impetus for the development of the conflict. And the next time Slipknot came to Cleveland (Mushroomhead's hometown) for a concert, they were given a "warm" welcome. An audience member threw a 9-volt battery onto the stage, which hit Paul Gray in the forehead.
