June 12 is often referred to as "Independence Day (of Russia)". Thus, in the course of a sociological survey conducted by the Levada Center since 1998, this opinion was expressed by 65% ​​of respondents in 2003 (maximum) and up to 36% in 2012 (minimum) [5].
On the same day in 1991, the presidential elections of the RSFSR were held, which were won by Boris Yeltsin.
June 12 is celebrated as the day of the city in many cities of Russia.
