Gwent: Games in Novigrad (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)

In short, I passed the quest Gwent: Games in Nograd. I defeated the first three players (before the meeting with the Scoia'toel merchant) and they showed me that I completed the quest and recently I find out that in order to get the Ciri card, you need to defeat this merchant. I free him, he comes to the camp and I start talking to him and there is no line of dialogue to play gwent with him.
What to do?

Something is clearly not right here. The necessary npc elf merchant stands in the forest, (towards the lighthouse along the coast OUTSIDE the walls of Novigrad) and he does not need to be saved.
