There are 3 solutions, one you just connect the gamepad without remapping the buttons and play in a split, the second you can download the repack with online and play randomly in 6 people, and 3 by remote play via steam

You connect the gamepad and in the hero selection menu the second player activates the second hero with the button, I don’t remember which one. You can also connect all the available gamepads to your computer and play with a crowd of up to 6 people inclusive.

I have the opposite problem, I want to play alone, but with the gamepad the game does not allow you to select a character from the gamepad, the first one allows you to choose the player from the keyboard tour, so I move the one that is playing to go further and I play for the fact that it is controlled by the gamepad.
