I'm lvl 27 ... completely a melee warrior, armor and light weapons are pumped, but two magicians insure (a necromancer and an elemental magician in one person, a white magician in another), and two archers, And brother Bor (with an awesome battle ax) and Naytaria (NightSong) with me at the forefront...Nothing, incendiary mixture is enough. True, melee warriors are not enough, but Jared is good at both ranged and melee...
And my hero himself is half a warrior and a magician of the elements, mostly ice and flame, so I gave all the warriors swords or other weapons in one hand, and in the other bows and a normal hybrid turned out :)

On the other hand, at higher levels you already master one magic perfectly, and a few more well enough to use them in combat too.
