I don't understand help mode

Call me an elitist, but I don't get it.
The whole point of souls-likes is to overcome difficulties, if you, the player, turn on help mode, you are essentially playing something else. Why are you playing souls-likes if you want to mess up the basic mechanics. Just play something else if you want to play stress-free.
