Gems (Divinity: Original Sin 2)

Friends, many remember how in the first part it was possible to enchant armor with a ruby giving +25% resistance to all elements. Here is how I understand this is not possible ) Then what is needed in the game are malachite, ruby, misty krystal...?
Has anyone found a use for them?
