What you read was only partially true - this version of XP was really hard to find the driver, but for some iron and impossible (producers were not allowed). But this does not mean that all were like - he used this version of XP (problems with drivers was not), when I bought myself 4 GB of RAM to have part of its volume as not to lose due to limitations of 32-bit OS.
