How to finish off a wounded animal without damaging the pelt? (Red Dead Redemption 2)

Actually the question in the topic title: how to kill an animal after an unsuccessful shot, the RDO, not to spoil the carcass quality. Shoot him in the head, stabbing them with a knife - all this spoils the skin. Options, type R, as in no single. Is to stand there and wait to bleed out is the only option not to spoil the carcass?

1) If wounded, and the animal dies->Yes,wait until you die[-turnips,but the skin will not be spoiled]
2) Pick the correct weapon for each kind of animal and always shoot in the head[for 3 stars you need to kill with the 1st shot and the skin will not be damaged in 99%[1% that somehow shot is not correctly count and skin will be spoiled]
