I think this is a bug with the latest patch 1.6. I have the same thing, the game is licensed with Gog. But nothing heavy in this is no bug, just a nuisance not affecting the game. The dirt is not visually displayed, and actually have and still affect the appearance. The main thing that this patch fixed a lot of more serious bugs.
