Official GeoStash - What is it? (INFRA)

At lower levels, I came across two boxes of geocaching.
One hidden on the bridge at the beginning of the game, the second in the cave, near the ferry.

Is it possible that more of them? And does their presence on the end of the game? Or is it made just for fun, they say, and the citizens of Steelhammer also play geocaching?
