Familiarity with the series (Divinity: Original Sin 2)

Tell me, do I need to be the first Original Sin, before playing the second? Interested in how connected the plot, is there a generic characters, references, etc.

Familiar with DOS and Divinity 2. Starting to play with DOS 2 will not lose anything. It's like Ancient Scrolls.
