Immersive armor is the best option.
This mod not only equips new armor named NPCs, but also adds a level leaves a lot of things.

I have in the game ... this is not the Only one who got into the habit to do so, so this Idolaf the Son of the Battle - he takes the Imperial breastplate, and in return ... nothing. But time passes, and he either dresses up as it should, or something else.
There are good settings that allow you to influence the crafting of the added items and most importantly, their prevalence in Skyrim.
In the end, the mod can delete it. :-)
