Why novels games Metro the revolver is the only gun? (Metro Exodus)

Slightly off topic, Metro Exodus, but still: why is this popular revolver in the first two parts of the game? Why not a pistol Stechkin, Makarov, at least the Colt 1911, namely the gun? This is because it has always been a lot of problems: a tight platoon, big returns, small store. I was always very worried about this question)

The point is not popularity, but the fact that in the original part of the gun was really the only gun. Perhaps the PM and Stechkin not added because of the engine. Anyway, in the Subway more than any home-made guns than the factory. The whim of the developers, I guess
