The job is not a mandatory, passing them faster than you are gaining followers (if with a friend in coop even faster), due to the number of followers (as I understand it, type, gain city etc), you will gain certain skills, those skills which can only be obtained through these job network. But personally, I pass them with a friend in coop just because it's fun and very fun))
