Take nere GTX 1070, overclock to 1700 (autorange happens in the district 2070) / 9000 MHz and nere GTX 1080 overclocked factory to 1785 (autorange before 1974) / 10000 MHz. The amount of avtoradgona, what if, some tools can be adjusted. Intel i7-6700 (without K) @ 4.4 GHz (bus), RAM, two 8GB @ 2400 MHz.
The results at 2560x1440 resolution on ultra GTX 1070 / GTX 1080 at specified frequencies in the following games: Fallout 4; GTA 5; RotRT; the Witcher 3; DOOM; Quantum Break; TW: Wh (DX12); Overwatch; The Division respectively are (average FPS): 107 / 116; 87/97; 76/85; 72/80; 97/108; 58/65; 108/122; 127/139; 66/75. All the chips nVidia and AMD has been disabled; total games — 9. In the sum / average of all games we get: 798 / 88.67 FPS GTX 1070 @ 1700~2070/9000 MHz and 887 / 98.56 FPS GTX 1080 @ 1785~1974/10000 MHz. In other games the difference between GTX and GTX 1070 1080 resolution at these frequencies is about the same: 8-14%. On the same frequencies, the difference between 17-25%.
It turns out that nere manually overclocked GTX 1070 provides almost 90% of the performance overclocked from the factory nerea GTX 1080. Of course, in the future with a driver update the preponderance GTX 1080 could uveitis, but even so, taking into account the cost, the GTX 1070 insanely good until you repeat the fate of the GTX 970 in two years, when the time comes to nVidia's Volta.
