Are there alternative food sources for the settlers? (Fallout 4)

But growing vegetables is somehow not so hot, there is no variety for the inhabitants. Are there any alternatives to this?

Make supply lines. Through them, water and food is supplied in the same way. Well, at least not everywhere you will need to deploy a farm.
