The Ukrainian hryvnia is recognized as the most undervalued currency in the world.This is evidenced by the updated Big Mac index, which is calculated by The Economist magazine.
As it turned out, the cheapest Bigmak in terms of dollars costs the residents of Ukraine $ 1.57 (39 hryvnia), while in the States the product costs $ 5.04. Based on this, the researchers came to the conclusion that the hryvnia is underestimated by 68.8%.
Thus, according to the researchers, the dollar exchange rate in Ukraine should be equal to 7.86 hryvnia.
The Economist came to almost the same conclusion in January.
The second place in the list of undervalued currencies was taken by Malaysia with an indicator of $ 1.99 (undervalued by 60.6%) and Russia with $ 2.05 (undervalued by 34.2%).
The most overvalued currency was the Swiss franc (overvalued by 30.8%).
The Big Mac index is based on the theory of purchasing power parity, according to which the exchange rate should equalize the value of the consumer basket in different countries. It is sold all over the world, and its composition remains practically unchanged.
Earlier, economists at Deutsche Bank said that by far the most undervalued currency in the world is the Polish zloty.
