How to increase FPS (Diablo 2)
Please tell me how to increase fps in Diablo II in Windows 8.1, I met a lot of smart people who say that 25 fps is enough, but it's not the fps of the world around d2 that matters, but the fps of the mouse, that is, the smoothness of its movement, it's more comfortable for me to play on win xp because ... there plus or minus 60 frames and on the eight and 20 happens. In short, explain why I don’t like it and you probably don’t care that 25 that 60 can be long since. everyone who asked for help wanted to know why I need it, if I ask, then I need it!FPS of mouse movement also cannot exceed 25. All these numbers are more than 25, this is only because you are playing in a window, elementary physics. in reality, the FPS is unchanged there and does not exceed 25 (well, sometimes a little less when the lags).
if you want to stupidly increase those numbers that are written, displaying the fps of Windows, and not games, then you need to improve your ddr and gpu.
here the question is not whether you need it or not, but whether it is possible. in d2 this is impossible. so calm down. you need to increase the dpi of the mouse, not the fps.
The fps of the mouse movement just seems to exceed 25, it is not connected with the physics of the game,
although it is still difficult to imagine what is the use of
this fps in a window or a full screen?
check the different modes and fullscreen 2D 3D
and why not demolish the eight?
In general, fps is the value of how many frames a video card renders in GPU per second. In d2, as they write above, all the caste blocks of animation of skills and the like are designed for 25 animation frames per second. Because the refresh rate of the screen is on average 100 Hz, then this is about the screen that can draw 100 frames per second, as a result, in 4 frames there will be the same picture, but objects not tied to these 25 fps will be displayed depending on the current fps. This is clearly visible on the cursor when you take money from the chest. At the expense of the mouse cursor, I did not notice, but there is clearly an improvement in smoothness on the alt client where the fps is about 200 or with a gl wrapper.
And now on the topic, download an alternative client, or glide. This will noticeably increase the FPS and generally improve the smoothness of the work if there is such a problem. The wrapper can be found in the rubatl files.
gradusGl
used to play with this glide init but could not set up anything normally, the window cannot be moved, when the window is not active, it immediately minimizes, and several copies of the game cannot be started in it, but I just noticed that when starting through my dear d2m fps by eye has become much higher! but when you look through / fps it immediately drops to 25. Probably the video driver just started working normally when it switched to 3dfx with the new "glide3x.dll" file. But the game in the single is still 25 fps, but it's not so important to me :) Anyway, thanks a lot to everyone! :)))
firkax I
will not carry the eight because it works much faster than xp and there are many useful programs for it that I use and which will not go to xp. And there is no point in demolishing. xp is also installed in parallel just in case.
I didn’t say xp instead of 8,
you can 7 instead of 8, for example, to 7 progs more than 8 I think, and few people did the prog "only for 8" at all. everyone knows that there are 8 spots
and you did not answer the other questions - where is the FPS then? what video mode? what's in other modes?
But the game in the single is still 25 fps, but it is not so important
for me in the single in the engine there is a limitation, the drivers cannot fix it

7 and 8 are backward compatible, the prog for one and the other is equally important that each has support for x64 but not in xp, and I would not say that such a spot, if you set it up is quite normal, I have from Zver :) 3dfx as I understand it, although in the configurator when I change to something else at the next check, everything is exactly ticked on 3dfx, and the game starts through it. when loading, the fonts are scrolled in the upper left corner, put the -w -direct parameters in the shortcut to d2m, and in window mode it is through -w that loads faster, and the window can be dragged, unlike the window mode, through the configurator, and so d2m is launched in the full screen but it takes longer to load.

I don't, and I say that 7 is not worse,
but that 8 lags and 7 is not, so 7 is better
so that fonts do not scroll and load faster - install this (and d2m will not be needed) http://forums.playground.ru/diablo_2/server/font_color_008866_alternativnyj_klient_font-688911/
I put a glide, I did not notice a smoother image, only a pseudo 3D effect and colors are much richer than steel, for example, when you are poisoned, everything around is seen as a greenish tint. Cool.
When starting d2 in the window, all sorts of screensavers began to play, how to disable it?
Put the glide
Tell me, is this "glide" - isn't it a third-party program (which is therefore prohibited on this server)?
redoolf
this program is from the blizzards themselves, and it only affects the visual display of the game, without interfering with anything else, so it is allowed.

But, for example, in the "Bans" topic it is written:
The only non-third-party program is the Diablo II game itself. D2m (loader, no-cd) is also allowed, since not everyone has disks or it is inconvenient to insert them every time. Everything else is just third-party programs.
The topic also says that any modification of the display ("for example, changing the color of the grass") is a cheat. That is, it is also forbidden to influence the visual display of the game.
I wanted the administration to clearly indicate which types of modifications are allowed and which are not and are punishable by a ban.
redoolf
I'm certainly not sure, but I think that changing the color of the grass was meant in the context of interfering with the game client itself and changing something, the glide works in a completely different way, it's like using other video drivers on your computer.
in general, there is a glide in the files on pg, I think if it were forbidden then it would be deleted
redoolf
Glide is an OpenGl wrapper. And on old video cards it was supported by hardware, so there was no need for dll.
I'm even sure that if you repack textures or sounds, it is unlikely that there is a hash check on the server, no one will know about what changes only what will be visible on your screen.
I still do not understand the essence of what this glide does, and what exactly makes it permitted. Is it a driver or not? Is this not a thing done specifically for D2, but something general-purpose? As I understand it, you need to put some dll-ku in the folder with the game. That is, it runs along with the game, replaces some system calls, or something like that? Isn't this an interference with the game client?
firkax
8 was a little blunt, 8.1 is already better, on the 10th I have no problems with compatibility with anything else.
redoolf
is not cheating anyway. this does not give you any advantage in the game except that some can play with 25 fps and you with more, although 25 fps does not bother everyone.

this can be chopped off through the configurator of this glide by ticking the "no gamma" item in the "renderer" menu.
And you can also configure it to show exactly 800x600 resolution in fullscreen, like this:
