DLC Noob question (Fallout 4)

I went through the game completely, tried all possible endings ... I deleted the game ... And now .... I got my hands on a patched version with three installed add-ons. I could not resist and installed it. Now the actual question: You need to enter these add-ons from menu of the game or will they appear during the passage of certain quests or the plot itself? Is there a connection between pumping skills and other goodies in the game itself and in these add-ons?
In short, where to go, where to go?

All this is in the game itself, just new quests, new locations, new crafting opportunities, etc. will appear.

With robots, the quest fell out to me at the first levels, I literally cleaned out the Red Rocket and crafted a little and went on, I didn't even reach the Minuteman-nigga. but Horbor fell out only when Valentine passed a couple of missions. The Harbor is halfway through and is now back to the main plot. I go hunting synth hunter))

Clearly, I will go through a new one! Apparently in my childhood I didnâ€™t play enough with cubes, bastard from building settlements for parasite settlers!
