new game + (Dark Souls)

I need help with this. A few years later I wanted to replay on a new game +. I installed it again, I look at two saves there, one at level 97 for about 140 hours of play, the second level 4 at the beginning of the game. The second save, as I understand it, cannot be from a new game +, because the levels would have continued, apparently I just started over. This means that the first save is exactly before the last boss, since I completed the game completely the first time.
