If you play through Steam, then follow this path:
In the upper left corner of Steam → Settings, and then in the Controller category, click Basic controller settings. Then you have to find a guide.

Another option, go to the game settings and perhaps switch the slider to the GamePad there

and another option - reset the keys,
see if the control keys are assigned in the game
