Impressions of the game Fallout: Sonora (Fallout 2)

Fallout: Sonora

¡Ola camaradas! From the Western and Nevada Wastelands we set off for the sultry, radiant south, crackling with a Geiger counter. To Mexico, to previously unseen locations.
An unusual beginning - we are not just another native of the Vault, but a peasant from a very closed farming village that does not tolerate technology, which was attacked by some bandits and took all the men, as well as your madras and padres, into slavery. We must save. Just for a start, the elder tells us, go, granddaughter, to the basement. And there, the average peasant finds carefully preserved heirlooms: a travel flask, a strange blue jumpsuit, and a sleeve computer ...
The new game from the creators of Fallout: Nevada turned out to be extremely original, but at the same time retained the spirit of the series. Like the last game, this is a full-fledged Fallout without any discounts. Fair rather big game. It is especially gratifying to see the creators rise above themselves, especially in artistic terms: a lot of new models, whole unique to the series of looking cities, weapons, rare new monsters, characters and even smartly modeled talking heads. Of course, also with a Mexican twist. Feels like a real game, not a fan craft.
Almost immediately after the start and finding a more or less normal weapon, I want to ... send the creators obscenities. Suddenly, yes. Because, without declaring a never-changing war, they placed rifles, shotguns, etc. (which I usually play in the first half of all SPECIAL games) in the category of heavy weapons (which is almost absent here). Of course, I didn't really read the descriptions, I walked along the path that was beloved for almost two decades, and such a surprise that I had to run the first half of the game with pistols (and only they and PP are included here in light weapons), it was very annoying. A major change (unlike some skill changes in Nevada), they would have warned at least somehow ...
For some reason, almost completely removed the craft of weapons, which seemed to be brought to perfection in Nevada. Instead, you will often come across machines on which you can make something predetermined, including weapons, including cool ones. But without crafting, it's sadder. There is no mine detector either.
But there are a bunch of other equally interesting new activities. Repair and Science skills will now be in very high demand. starting with the extraction of scrap metal and nuclear batteries for the bike, ending with reading inscriptions on shields and breaking into computers (and gaining experience for this, which is typical). Even ordinary conversation now brings tangible experience, if you ask the NPCs for everything in general, and even help yourself with eloquence.
In general, the authors took a completely different path and turned out to be very original. The game stands out while remaining good old Folych.
From a technical point of view, there are complaints. I played the assembly from Fox, maybe she's to blame, I don't know. Firstly, in some locations, the music is accompanied by strange, clearly alien clicks and wheezes (mainly in Phoenix and in a couple of other places). Secondly, there is a noticeable number of crashes, probably related to the inventory, which frankly slows down here, which is especially evident during theft. There is one buggy map (the destroyed Platform beacon) where you can scroll beyond the boundaries of the map. But in general, it plays well, this is already a full-fledged ready-made game, the main thing is to save more often and in different slots. :))
An excellently created world, many interesting large and small quests and a good plot in which we, against the background of saving the family, have to make a choice between two warring factions: rangers and sectarians (well, it was easy for me here, because religion is opium for the people!), And then make a similar choice again and here it was already really hard to choose. In addition, we will, of course, take part in the life of many smaller, picturesque villages, often changing their fate. And even in a couple of habitats of outright raiders, you can solve problems peacefully, which in itself is interesting and gives some bonuses.
And there is also a BIKE! On which you can attach the skull of the Deathclaw !!! Damn, give two. :))
There is also an opportunity to take partners, there are several of them, but only one can walk (or rather ride) with us, which is logical: the rest will not run after a bike in the desert.

So, against the background of the series finally gone to 3D (I’m not saying that this is bad), and in some places to the online (this is bad) bottom, we have already had a second full-fledged game in our beloved world and in my beloved isometric view. I'm not crying, these are just oldfag tears on the T51b helmet visor.
8/10. Missing the old radiant Fallouts run to play!

¡Viva La Mexico!

I haven't played this mod/addon, but I've heard a lot of interesting things about it 8) Including the fact that it's not a mod, but a separate game. OK.
And here are some comments, I hope it will be interesting for everyone to read, but I warn you: a lot of letters ...

opinions about Sonora! The comments are not mine, and this is from another site.
Please, here are opinions about this mod:
An extremely weak toy in many respects, we will not go into details, we only note that the post-atomic topic itself has long been hackneyed to holes and for the 1001st time trying to ride a classic is already more sad than fun. It’s kind of a shame how flat and standardized the elementary imagination of modern toy makers works - the topic of A-bombs was eaten up and utterly spoiled, and no one guessed a full-fledged RPG about the same pathogens that today actually stopped civilizational development, at least I I don't remember such full-fledged erpeges) The old "Mor. Utopia" is perhaps, but this form can hardly be called a classic RPG.
What can I say - the game is amazing!
I really admire the amount of content, its elaboration! The mod really makes you feel the scale of events, unlike the same Nevada - much has become more logical, clearer and better. + They returned the brotherhood, - I lacked them. In F2, it was particularly annoying that they were underrepresented.
Special thanks that they did not cut the arsenal - many classic samples remained unchanged. I like them more than trying to replace them with something. Access to good weapons is spread out so that cool samples are available as you progress - this was done well.

Stealing and stealing really matter. Without furtively, one cannot get to the boxes of good that are widely represented. Although I still did not understand how to steal from sellers - up to 150 theft level they say that there is little skill, after 150 - the merchants just have empty inventory. I don't quite understand where the logic is. There are a lot of Persians on the map, and they have a lot of valuables in their pockets, and therefore it’s worth starting the game with theft - this will help a lot, but not 100 percent - you still need to understand that you can’t steal anything from merchants, not one. Here I think they did too much - with theft of 200, I think it would be possible to leave the opportunity. Although this is not particularly necessary - in principle, there is enough money in the game.

The need for skills. Really necessary and science, and repair, and communication and traps. Many perks are really beaten by gameplay, and therefore are needed.

Economy. Traders have money, in large cities very decent amounts. There is a variety - merchants in different cities, each sells approximately their category of goods. There is even a small market. We resolved the issue of gambling - I tried, according to old memory, how to cut the dough in Nevada - let me remind you that having pumped gambling up to 120-150, you could become an oligarch and buy whatever your heart desires. And knitted an accelerated pumping of gambling. As a result, in general, in vain. As far as I understand, to play in a casino - a special skill is not needed. Yes, and the stakes there ... Petty - you win a maximum of 15 caps per iteration. But you can lose, with luck 10 - it happens often. You won't be able to abuse, even with high luck, and high (relatively) game skill - you still consistently go into the red when you "autoplay" (click) through the casino roulette table in Phoenix. And play smart.. . Very slow and tedious, but possible. The only plus is that time does not pass while you are playing in-game. But given the prices, you need about 10 games (prices may vary) to buy a stimpack. For the very beginning of the game, maybe it will do. And so, if time permits, then it is easier to catch baniuks on the map, and climb them well.

Weapon. By the way, cartridges seem to have risen in price - 1 power battery costs 10 caps, and 12 caliber - 14. It is clear that the damage from a plasma hard drive will be done by a shotgun, I don’t understand where such logic comes from. In theory, batteries should cost more. And significantly - every 2-5 times, to add balance to the game.
There are .50 caliber pistols, pistols are not useless now, but as for me, another approach is more profitable - we download melee weapons at the first stage - in the game it is widely represented by all sorts of very good examples - which can be very effective due to the fact that they have good damage and do not require batteries. For example, robots were hit with more dagi from a glove than from a laser gun. Alya gaus did more, not by much. And then - we immediately switch to the Winchester P94 energy weapon - so far without competition (alas, it really cannot be strengthened). Since the cartridges are expensive, we beat the little things with cold, the grains - from the energy industry. We sell all regular ammo.
There is also an analogue of the Gauss cannon, which is now charged with energy batteries. The thing is rare, I found it only once in one place - on a random location in the right corner of the map, and there are strong mobs, it’s so easy not to scatter them. Powered by heavy weapon skill, not energy weapon. Alas, they didn’t add a bozar (((There is only some kind of machine gun, but chambered for 5mm, obviously none (if I’m not mistaken). I didn’t see a Gatling laser, or a vindicator. do you reduce the content? Well, remake it somehow, let it be at least for variety. Although here it should be admitted that everything is not bad with variety. Even competitors for power gloves have appeared, more economically justified)
Since it took place in 2016 or 2018, I can’t remember exactly, but if you generalize, then this is a much higher level of elaboration of trifles and details! Tasks, their variability, and the impact on achievements, or the reaction of others. In Nevada, at least there was a cool idea with finding a scanner, it seems that it still needs to be repaired later, to collect some parts in various garbage dumps ... Then, with its help, look for all sorts of hiding places in many locations of the game and unique items or just loot, with the help of a coin on a rope, it was possible to steal cola from machine guns, then get an achievement in stats for this, and the reaction of others, it seems, in general, there are seemingly small features, cool little things, and quests with good variability. Some cool tasks, in Reno there was either a ghoul, or someone, that person, who, according to the script, when a player got into Reno for the first time about 10 or 15 years ago, he threw his friend into the hatch, and he himself began to stir up with his wife, and told her that he just died, or ran away with prostitutes ... I don’t remember already, he can only be found if you really screw up local locks yourself, in general, be a very big-eyed player, then a task with a reference to the movie "Tremors of the Earth", with worms, the animation there was of course x ... wai, but still not bad, the reference came to me with a bang, given that I liked the first two parts of the film. Depending on the sex of the GG, it was possible to take the appropriate additional tasks, if you play as a female Persian, then you could become a stripper in Reno, and at the "peak of your career", so to speak, be raped by fans if you go out the wrong door ... Or even godfather raiders,
Once the conversation turned to Nevada vs. Sonora.
I read that "canvas" only in fragments, but I have the opposite story. Starting as a mod, I rated Nevada quite highly, but the plot there seemed to me the weakest part of it. The main idea just didn't work, no way. And the fact that companions were almost completely cut out in both mods, which for me is a very fierce blow to the crotch of diplomat characters, and in general, anyone who invests at least a little in Charisma. The complexity of Nevada increased very strongly and sharply, I simply could not kill the opponents that they pushed at me - I had to run away from them in stealth and contrive at the end of the game, but maybe this is the idea. Sonora with a smoother ascending difficulty curve. I praise both mods for seeing how energy weapons in the original Fallouts came across very rarely, too late to take this skill at the beginning, but the game made it possible to obtain weak specimens through quests quite early on, if the player is willing to splurge on more expensive batteries and cells. All this Mexicanism scared me at first and I was afraid that there would be too much of it, but I saw the usual Fallout only with a taste. The story itself was more mundane, simple, but at the same time understandable and quite logical - I like this more than when they try to catch up with the epic and sudden turns.
Passed Nevada and Sonora.
Nevada is like a beautiful child of F1 and F2, but with big flaws. The main plot and the invisibility of the concept of the world. Quests are good, but the player must take a break from them, or prepare for new challenges, doing all sorts of activities on the map and in cities (robbing cows or accompanying them, etc.) because of this the world comes to life.
Sonora is like an ugly child, with glimpses of her former glory. We all saw this and we know all the analogies, as they noted above, why do we need Mexico, if again everything revolves around old acquaintances? In any case, this is a crazy job and the authors are great, in principle, you can even sell in the incentive, it will be better than many indie games (if it were not a mod).
the day when I finally finished Sonora. Dropped her all the time. The biggest mystery is how the team of pros working with the Fallout 2 engine did this! Nevada was behind the Fallout-2 scenarios, but the gameplay was a few goals higher! The chips implemented in it really delivered to me, and there was not a second that I did not understand that I was in Fallout, which we love, dark and cool. Nevada itself is in many ways better than Fallout-2, it's not a shame for her! And here it is ... Sonora in a word, now I call that what cats do in the slippers of negligent owners

No, in terms of size, duration and fullness, this is a full-fledged game.
