the fire in which the box with the will is hidden does not work, I hover the cursor and it turns gray, and the fire itself is not clickable

Literally just finished the game for the second time, and for some reason I can't remember the bonfires in which some kind of will is hidden. It looks like you are doing something wrong. Better just look for the passage of this quest in the internet.

box is located by the fire at the western end of the map. If you visit an abandoned camp for the first time, then it will be guarded by several creatures of darkness. Examine the fire and unearth the casket. This is the text from the wiki

Personally, I did not follow that quest during the battle with the "spawn", but I remember that the fire was burning. Then he remembered about the quest, returned, the fire was no longer burning (or maybe he clicked something) and took the box from there.
