On a recent visit to the Bethesda UK showcase, we had the opportunity to play through an entire level of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Instead of describing real events, cheating for a catchphrase, the game takes place in a world where the Nazis won World War II. In the courtyard of 1960, after lying in a coma for 14 years, William B.J. Blazkowitz wakes up to find that the world is hung with swastikas and is controlled by secret services. His only choice is, of course, to befriend the resistance and try to figure out how things went so badly. The first level of the demo started in a car driven by a resistance driver, just as she was driving through the roadblock. As words of relief, the inhabitants of the car swore heartily, after which she drove onto the bridge and Big Ben appeared in the field of view. Our task was to attack the Nazi construction called London Nautic. The driver threw us out near the entrance and then drove into the security cannons, after which he activated the bomb installed in the car. Here we were given control of William, and the hero took out a pistol. Rather than calling the game a regular first person shooter, MachineGames prefer the term “action-adventure-shooter.†It's hard to ignore the fact that The New Order wants you to kill a bunch of Nazis while going on adventures at the same time. Before we made our way into the main building, we had to bypass the robotic battle dog, cut through the metal mesh with a laser cutter and lay down the huge robot with a machine gun requisitioned from a dead enemy soldier. Then we finally hit the entrance corridor, real shooting started, and hell broke loose. Although the demo was a PC version of the game, we were given an Xbox 360 controller. The left and right triggers allow you to aim before filling another Nazi with bullets, and you can even scatter and then slide across the floor for cover - although that was far from that impressive like a similar trick from Vanquish. Health is restored here, but only 20 points above the current position. You can also collect armor from almost any slain fascist, and it did a pretty good job of absorbing damage. Unlike most first-person shooters we've seen in recent months, The New Order makes every pull of the trigger a real pleasure. Even when you hold the most ordinary pistol in both hands, you feel that every bullet does damage. It's not Soldier of Fortune in the sense that you can't shoot off your opponents' limbs, but the battles here are less about blinding flashes and more about how to turn enemies into sieves. Also, it seems that all weapons here have a second firing mode - like triple-shot pistols - but most of the barrels were not included in the demo. Having cleaned the entrance hall, we found two things worth noting: a safe with a mini-game screwed to it and a gold plate, which we pocketed by smashing a vintage sideboard to pieces. The Wolfenstein series is generally known for a small fad in loot collection, so this cymbal is likely to be one of the many valuable items to collect. We also found a framed newspaper with an article about how the Nazis won the space race. Looking through the newspaper, William said, “you put a Nazi on the moon? Fuck you, moon. †The space theme was developed in the next zone - a planetarium with a huge model of the moon in the center. Here we had to shoot down a bunch of flying robots while climbing stairs hanging in the air. When we got to the top level, William picked up two shotguns, from which he also managed to shoot in Macedonian style. At this point, he issued the line “I've got some bad news for you Fritz.†We then built an impromptu bridge, knocking down a satellite suspended from the ceiling, and moved further into the complex. In the next section of the level, we made our way along a narrow elevator shaft. At some point, we had to make a "leap of faith" through the burning pit, then - to shoot off the elevator brakes, standing on its counterweight. These were the very elements of the action-edwercher, and MachineGames are happy to bring them to the attention. I must say, they really harmoniously complemented the process of playing the war. We also take our hats off to MachineGames for minimizing the player's hand-driving and not hesitating to punish, even kill the hero if the person behind the joystick makes a mistake. Indeed, if Dark Souls taught us anything, it is that success only brings more satisfaction if you have to work hard to achieve it. In the last part of the demo, we were shown a new weapon called the Laserkraftwerk. William found this laser, similar in size to a grenade launcher, in a laboratory filled with ancient artifacts and sophisticated devices. The developers explained that lasers are an important part of the game, and although the laser cutter we saw at the beginning is the weakest of its kind, Laserkraftwerk is not necessarily the strongest. We were then ordered to storm a nearby hangar, where several prototype helicopters, called Project Whisper, were stationed. We managed to "stealth" kill two patrolmen, after which we were spotted, but as soon as the smell of fried smelled, Laserkraftwerk came to our aid. In addition to cutting through the wire mesh, lasers can cut through crates, revealing ammunition hidden inside, as well as cut off small pieces of walls, so you can shoot through the formed embrasures using the local firing mechanics from cover. But Laserkraftwerk turned out to be more than just a futuristic gas burner - it allowed us to face the final boss and win. The boss turned out to be a hefty robot that burst into the room after we cleared the hangar of soldiers and smaller robots. It was armed with an impressive railgun that charged for a few seconds and then slammed at our feet, causing a decent shockwave on impact. At first, the game was played with only one goal, but then we found that the opponent could not shoot for the platform, towering in the center of the hangar - and all that remained was to shoot him with the second Laserkraftwerk mode, without taking any particular risk, so the weak AI turned out to be the only disappointment in the whole demo version. In all other respects, The New Order already looks much better than, for example, the proposal from Raven Software released in 2009 at the time. The graphics engine delivers really impressive effects, the story and characters feel like a pleasing blend of brutality and comedy, with a slight hint of Serious Sam-style bravado. Action items indicate that the game will be more than just a shooter. And perhaps most importantly, shootouts feel meaningful and enjoyable. Obviously, MachineGames are just starting to polish the game right now. If they pull it off, we may face the most successful "shoot the Nazis" shooter since Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

I hope the atmosphere itself will be at its best, the previous part was great in this regard.

Was it to be expected, as I understand it, has QuakeCon 2013 started? The game, which was about something completely different, became just like the others.
Well, here again this nonsense, well, why make such fat rifles, when he picks it up, he does not sourly so 30% of the screen eats if not more and almost reaches the sight, well, this is a relic of the past (
