Beta Half-Life 2 - impressions
It seems that I did not see someone here sharing their impressions of the Beta, so let it be a topic;)
The first thing that becomes clear: if the hacker did not lie and this is really all that Valve had in his work, then the game simply could not be released on September 30 in any way - there is simply nothing to release: rotfl: and God forbid they have time to finish everything by April :)
Really playable levels are very few - on the fingers of one hand of a disabled person can be counted :) there is a bunch of something like a hangar without windows and doors inside which there are three dudes hanging in the air :) and there are more than enough such levels. There are half playable ones in which, say, there is no scripted scene due to which it is impossible to advance, there are no textures in some places, etc.
Rumors that there is no AI in beta did not come true. AI is, although it does not shine at all. The animation of people's movements is not at all happy - it is very jerky and unnatural. The vaunted Lipsink works occasionally and then through the ass. Although the water is beautiful, it looks unimportant and it is annoying that it is always in motion (although there are never waves), i.e. constant chaotic flickering, what is the calmness of the local water was not explained.
It is not very clear with the damage system: either traces remain on people, or nothing remains at all :? Pomegranates do not tear anyone into vinigrette, well, maybe zombies, and even then they always fly into three identical parts. So everything here looks very rough at the moment.
Physics is very good, but quite useless: you look once or twice as the barrels from a grenade scatter and you forget. Well, the corpses, of course, competently twirl their limbs after death, although this will surprise no one already.
The weapons are almost all old and of no interest - the usual set of guns, except for the gravitational bullet.
The sound is very good and this is practically the only thing that leaves an extremely positive impression.
The walls without textures also look very funny, on which markings are made for doors, windows, etc. :) and all sorts of inscriptions left by the developers: "But here it would be necessary to let some water" or "And this door will be locked": mrgreen:
The game slows down a lot in places (despite the not weak config) and often falls out into Windows: evil:
The main conclusion: if this is all that Valve has, then plow it and plow it so that another soap bubble does not turn out, which was blown up by PR people for a long time and tastefully and which, with the release of the game, will burst with relish and sprinkle everyone

In general, it is not very clear what Valve was doing. The vaunted physics is handled by the PURCHASED Havok engine, which is made on the side. And the graphics, as we have already noticed, are by no means impressive.
... absolutely not impressive, everything looked very solid in the videos, but in fact it looks quite gray. But the most offensive thing is that the gameplay was not interesting at playable levels. So it’s not very clear, in fact, but what did they do for five years? Did you calculate future profits? Learned to use Outlook? ;)

just the foundation of the game, its backbone, should be laid at the earliest stages of the project, and certainly should be viewed by the alpha / beta. So I don't see anything sensible yet ... I perfectly understand what a pre-release version is - fortunately I myself work with it every day. At the moment, there is nothing interesting in the game except physics, as it turned out to be borrowed, and a good sound, if they succeed in doing everything, as it was intended, I will only be glad, but so far this is not visible at all.

IMHO, graphics and videos were not very much (except for some special moments). Very simple architecture, angular and so on. The screenshots show awkwardly blurred textures in places (like walls in a prison or a canopy over windows in a city).
Lighting is competent and a significant number of small details - it pulled out.
So it was not in the schedule that had to be the case.
Daenur, there the visual part can still be praised in places ... Here the main thing is not there, yes. There is no game. Well, this is a stale and incomprehensible version. IMO, it's too early to draw conclusions.
I do not draw final conclusions, just think for yourself: if this is really all that is ready at the moment, then is it possible to make a decent game out of all these sausage scraps by November / April? Maybe they have been picking their noses for five years, but now they will do everything once and again ... it will be just great, I’m totally for making a good game come out, there are simply great fears that this will not work.
Well, I don't believe yet that the whole game was stolen. Most likely, just a version for showing individual parts. Or even a future benchmark;).

And what are you judging about the game on the alpha curve? : shock: Well, what can I say in that case ... And I did not argue with you, but said that I hope that HL2 will be no worse than HL ...

I found it, played it ... and you know I liked it.

What a useless argument ??? It's not even an official beta. And not even an alpha ... This is NOT a VERSION at all, strictly speaking.
And I believe in Valve. The first part came out of nowhere and caused a real and GENUINE sensation, so there is no reason to doubt their creativity. And the graphics in the video are superb, and there is nothing to oppose, therefore, creating a good game is only a matter of time. And why was it worth pulling this beta? What kind of stupidity? Who was impatient !? Now it will be "impatient" until April. Hackers, what would they ...

But in the video, the models and water were not annoying as in beta.
Beta is probably left.
Well, you give a pancake :) The water annoys them, do you see it moves constantly, they are eating at all, the water there is quite beautiful ...
I especially liked the G-offspring replica, in the style: I have not seen the alpha, I have not seen the video, but I heard that .... It does not remind you of anything ....
