Tower Giant in Undead Settlement (Dark Souls 3)

Somewhere I heard that this giant should die someday, and a ring will fall from it. I got to the last boss, remembered about him and decided to return - it's worth living, and continues to talk about help. Maybe I did something wrong? Siegward's quest is completed completely, if that.

After you have collected all the branches from the trees, you should have eight of them in your inventory (including the one given by the giant). Look closely.
