How to Customize Controls (The Elder Scrolls: Arena)
Perhaps someone knows, and someone does not, but it will be useful to everyone. In general, I decided to play this wonderful game, and I was perplexed why there was no way to adjust the controls for myself.
As I understand, it will not be possible to do this in any game settings,
and I could not find any programs on this issue.
But still, as it turned out, it can be done.
Just launch DosBox (you do not need to enter the game) and press the LCTRL + F1 key combination. Thus, we get to the keyboard settings screen specifically for DosBox.
Here you can select any key and assign any other to it, as well as several keys (if necessary). Everything is done very simply, press the desired key, then use the add, delete or next functions.
Here I will write a setting that is more convenient based on the previous series of the game and my preferences.
For example, click on the key_up button (up arrow), below click on add, when the red text lights up, just click the desired key on your keyboard, in my example it is the W button.
Next key_down "S"
Key_left "A"
Key_right "D"
LeftSHIFT "E, W, Z"
U "G"
P "R" The
A key is a little different here add "F" delete "A" It turns out that only one F button should be assigned to the A key, while the A button should be deleted ... See for yourself why you need it.
R add "T" delete R
S "Q" delete "S"
LCTRL "LSHIFT"
L "V"
C "E"
M "X, Z"
F1 "TAB"
What do we have after all these shenanigans? Next:
WASD-move in space, LSHIFT + A, D walk sideways
Tab-base menu of the character; Q-status of the character
SPACE-jump in place, long-range jump with a run
X-card on the ground; Z-Global map for travel
C-select available spell;
E-repeat the previously selected spell
F-reach, remove the weapon
R-steal, hack
G-action button
T-rest
V-journal
The rest of the keys remained by default.
How it works.
Let's say we want the character to repeat the selected spell (in this case E) on any key. To do this, we additionally assign the E button to the C key (the one that is in the game by default). Now we can simply select spells for this E button, but we do not need this, but to re-cast the previous spell. To do this, we also assign the E button to the LSHIFT key. What do we have now? Now, in this case, we will not select the spell, but re-cast the previously selected one. Those. in fact, we replaced the default key combination in the game LSHIFT + C with one button E.
Also, for example, we have a key 1 which does absolutely nothing in the game. In order for this key to start doing something, it is necessary to carry out manipulations not in this key, but in those that carry certain actions in the game by default.
Disadvantages.
I don’t know all the shortcomings, I haven’t finished the first cave yet. But here are some on the face.
You will not be able to enter the normal name of the character when generating it, enter the normal names for the game save, and also call your spells when creating. Well, and accordingly DosBox itself.
In the first case, all the settings can be made after you have decided on your hero or see below.
In the second case, I just enter the name of the save according to its account (1,2,3 ...) and that's it, there is no point in writing texts.
In the third case, you can simply start the game on another DosBox and name the GG, and your spells as you please.
In general, however that may be, you can simply change the layout, and then return it as it was.
PS It's good to have at least 2 DosBoxes to test games.
And also the game is already 16 years old and can be downloaded for free from the off site or from anywhere else for a long time.
Who cares

There is a good package with the latest version of the game, customized DosBox and other goodies.
ATP but did not come in handy)
Logical. You just play a little - you see, it will come in handy.
MegaRomkas
Icon with crossed swords - attack
By clicking on this icon with the left key, you will see that your hero pulled out a weapon and prepared for battle. In this mode, the movement of the character is the same as with the hidden weapon. To strike, hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse in any direction - the hero will strike in the corresponding direction. Try different hitting options so you don't get caught off guard in battle. Hold down the "J" key - the character will jump up. If you need to jump long - hold down the right "Shift" first, and then "J". Click again on the attack icon to hide the weapon in the sheath.
