GOG version is DRM-free and that's why it works. The same garbage is with the Shadow of Chernobyl and other "stalkers" - they use the old version of DRM (Securom chtoli) and starting from 8 it's very problematic to play. I found a release from GOG on a torrent and everything worked like clockwork. So look for the GOG version
