We no longer serve files over our network.
The site has gained a lot of popularity over the past year. Unfortunately, its status as a small niche tool faded in the process. At the moment the site has become insolvent. We will no longer be transferring files over our network.

What happened now?
Valve has requested that we stop extracting and distributing content. We are not interested in the consequences of non-compliance. This site is run by amateurs and legal matters are not part of the hobby.

How did it happen?
For years, the site was just a simple tool for server owners to easily extract workshop mods for 1 game to check for malware and manage them manually on their server.

People accidentally discovered that this worked to some extent for other games and asked for improvements in this direction, which we eventually made as a side project, because it gave us an excuse to rewrite the site using new technologies and learn from it in process. . That's why the site worked so well, we were kind of obsessed with all the little technical details. We tried to satisfy every feature request we received.

The site has grown in popularity over the past year. It was fun for a while because it was a new tech challenge to solve and we could help more people. Some people own the game on another platform and want mods, some want to check mods, some want to control when their mods are updated, some want to change their mods, and so on.

However, after the events of last week, we realized that all this time we did not properly consider the legal consequences. We contacted Steam Support and they told us to stop distributing the content. At this point, the site is no longer a creative outlet, but a legal obligation.

Why can't you share mods that people have made and downloaded for free!?
The Steam Subscriber Agreement states that any file uploaded to the Workshop becomes a licensed item.

This means that if you upload an item to the Steam Workshop (and not elsewhere), people will never be able to freely share that item with each other again. People will forever have to go directly through Steam to get it.

Effectively this means that Valve can stymie a lot of user-generated content (mods/saves/tools/missions/etc) on their platform because users don't (or can't or don't know how to upload) their content where or else.

Our site has inadvertently grown as a tool to solve this problem. But these are terms that we all agree to every time we check the box or use any of their software. Continuing to ignore this reality will be relentless.

Why should they do it?
There are probably many reasons, but we believe some of them are:

User-generated content blocking motivates people to buy games on the Steam platform. Any user who buys the same game from any other store loses a lot of cool mods, saves, etc. This means that the same game bought elsewhere is less fun. You can also just say that this makes Steam a better end user service.

A nice side effect is that it reduces incentives to piracy because those people will also have less fun. That's why game developers love to publish them on Steam.

After all, mod makers are still the owners of the mods and Valve is protecting them with this agreement.

As far as we can see, this arrangement results in mods being restrictive by default instead of being open by default as before.

We think most mod creators (given the choice) would prefer their mods to be freely available. It is desirable that when uploading files to the workshop, the free license is used by default, and not the restrictive one (which mainly serves other purposes).

But this is just an observation on our part. The people behind this project have no interest in rebelling against Valve or their terms. We do this mainly because it's fun to create useful projects. At this point, the fun is gone.

What should I do now?
You can "simply" repurchase your games on Steam and use the workshop as intended.

If you don't want to do this because you need raw files; please extract any content you need directly from Steam using SteamCMD. Thus, we are no longer involved in the process.

Closing
Thanks for the nice posts over the years. :')

Because you can mods for garis mod, you can download mods anonymously, but not on other games

At the moment, I use one of two working methods (if the first does not work, I turn to the second).
1). Try to download from here (insert the link to the mod) https://ggntw.com/steam/
2). Install the steamcmd console from here https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd.zip (the contents will be unpacked to the same place where the file was launched and the console will automatically open).
register login anonymous and wait for OK after the words Waiting for user info
Next, paste the link to the mod here https://steamworkshopdownloader.io/, then opposite the question "Question: do you know what SteamCMD is and are you logged into it?" Click on the Yes button and get the processed link in the form (example) workshop_download_item 564310 933758221 and then click on the button opposite the received Click Here to Copy link and then paste it into the steamcmd console (you can also use the CTRL + V button combination) and press Enter. After the download is complete, you will be shown the text Success. Downloaded item indicating the path where this mod was downloaded.
