Impression of the game (The Sinking City)
New race into the world of Lovecraft will come true soon. Write here your impressions of the processPassed. What can you say about the game? This is a new project Ukrainian Studio Frogwares, inspired by the work of HP Lovecraft. The guys from Frogwares originally developed "your Call of Cthulhu" for Focus Home Interactive, but then their paths with publishing left. So light a child was born with an inhuman face called the Sinking City.
The game takes place in the United States 20 years, in the fictional town of Oakmont, Massachusetts. The role of the former military, now a private investigator, Charles reed, the player arrives in Oakmont to find out the cause of nightmares, tormenting reed at night. After the flood, flooded most of the city, many of its inhabitants began to visit similar mad dreams. In addition, Oakmont flooded "fishheads" refugees from the nearby town - Innsmouth. Yes, the topic of migrants and xenophobia openly rises in The Sinking City.
As for the gameplay, The Sinking City is a mixture of interactive detective (in the spirit of the last Sherlock Holmes), action and light role-playing elements. If we take the General mood and structure locations, the game is more reminiscent of last year's Vampyr. In The Sinking City is an open world, divided into different areas in which to focus solely on street names. And on the streets of these is a real "Lavrovsky" post-Apocalypse.... However, hazardous areas enclosed by barricades and for the most part optional to visit. And it pleases, because the local "Lavrovsky" monsters quickly become boring and absolutely not scary. Much worse – appearing out of thin air the same type of NPC (right in front of our main character). Unfortunately, as is often the case, the developers could not overpower the scale of their offspring. The game world is dead as they come, full of the same locations, there is simply nothing to do. A good example of "how not to do open world".
The main plot, despite the presence of sometimes interesting moral dilemmas (again, remember the Vampyr), overall disappointing. He is too weak and uneven flow of the narrative. In story locations, we, as a rule, we examine a key piece of evidence and make the correct chronological chain of events, and since almost every scene location. There are "raids" into the water – but they are made so simply and "for show", that to mention them has no special sense. As for the firefights with monsters, it turned out they badly are boring budget, quickly bored. Unfortunate, in my opinion, came out and most of the few side-quests – with a few exceptions (e.g., the quest with the Mirror).
Maybe things are better with the atmosphere? Nope. The atmosphere of the game and not hold a candle to the iconic Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, and frankly even last year's average Call of Cthulhu from Cyanide Studio, and he sometimes was atmospheric, than The Sinking City.
In the end, which side do not look, and the result is the same – a new project Frogwares inspired Lovecraft, came frankly mediocre project.
4/10
I played on xbox one, the graphics are not very good, lags and drawdowns ... But this is not the main thing. Mortal boredom, an absolutely dead city, a runaway from point a to point b, not a particularly interesting plot, 4 types of opponents ... And the desire to remove to hell with dogs ... It's all about this game, for those who had the patience to go through it, congratulations - you endured 99 levels ... It's a pity for the time, the game could have potential, but ukr fucked everything
