Ergo Proxy, in my opinion, is similar in its lax narrative structure to a subject index at the end of a philosophy textbook. Say, on such and such a page you can read about Plato, on such and such - about Rousseau and his views and thoughts about the human soul. There are bare references there, the number of which is sometimes pretty annoying - it would be better to choose several topics and try to reveal them, and not try to embrace the immensity. Which did not work out for them.

In general, I am not surprised why Ergo did not bring a single yen by the creators and had extremely low ratings. The anime just got confused in itself.
