I like the foot soldiers. Of course, they are inferior in armor to swordsmen, but they are very fast, which the latter is clearly lacking. Of the shooters, I prefer horse archers, which are very mobile.

In defense, archers + crossbowmen.
In the attack, horse archers + pikemen, of course, together with siege weapons. Before the offensive of the main forces, you can conduct training with slaves, do a little ballista work.
