They just understand that who is not going to buy, he will not, and will wait for hacking or discounts ...
I will describe my logic on this. I'm not a supporter of the idea - support the developer and publisher. They are not my friends or relatives to support them, and when with impunity you can push 3 buttons to get the same product for free - why not. On the other hand over the last 5-7 years most of the games I have bought. With age, such costs no longer seem large and buy more for convenience. So that at any time you can download with the latest updates and patches from your library, and not wait until the torrent updates. But this year I'm going to be reaping the pirate. The crisis hit the pocket, now even 2t to spend on the game is not very desirable.

Well, given that they mostly do large-scale projects, it becomes clear why there are so few of them

Wait in a break - yes, but discounts ... Ha!
No one will buy a game if they play hacked games. The most striking example of the situation with RDR 2. After breaking into it, the floor was once downloaded from the pirate bay in some 6 days. I am sure that Russian torrents handed out this amount of the same in three days!
Maybe if people would buy games, then the games would be more often coming out. And then less than half of the players will buy games. And more than half of the players are waiting for the pirate to come out. And you wait five years for them to play. As long as they find sponsors and the vual game comes out in 5 years and you passed it in 3 days

In fact, by 2020, most people are buying games through convenient services. Because now convenience is valued higher than the saved 2000--. Developers do not lose much on the fact that somewhere in the cis two cripples download the game from the torrent. You haven't seen the turnover of mobile milking yet, people there do not regret to donate a million a month.

In the world yes, but in this country, the majority of schoolchildren or students (the main contigent consuming games) for 2000 rubles will simply choke and will say that it is necessary to try whether the note, which on credit took or my mother bought for study. In general, in Russia will sell in the region of 100 thousand copies, no more. And 10 million minimum will be downloaded from the torrent.

Well, why a pirate, if the game is already worth only one scholarship
Well, why pay if you can download for free? Especially this game, an outlet that has been postponed over 9,000 times.
It will be a joke if the game will be denuded as in the versions for journalists.

Everything will be, just the monetization model will change, the free distribution model.
