Dark Messiah - Information (Dark Messiah of Might Magic)

Here we will discuss this gorgeous game. All facts, news, screenshots, video links, wallpapers and everything related to the game, please write here. Here are the facts that I know: the game is being developed on an extended version of the Source Engine, the player expects 12 huge levels, 40 weapons and a dozen combat spells.
Plot
You find yourself in the world of Ashan, which is threatened by the Dark Messiah. Players will fight on behalf of the young hero Sareth, who has been specially trained in both martial and magical arts. You will be able to choose between a warrior, mage or assassin. Each direction has its own characteristics and its own weapons. As you progress through the game, you will gain experience and improve the skills of the hero.

Everyone who is waiting for this epic Action/RPG can exchange information about the game on this forum.

Might and Magic Dark Messiah (http://www.mightandmagic.com/uk/darkmessiah/teaser/) Here are screenshots of this game.

The game is being developed by Arkane Studios (Arx Fatalis game, has anyone heard of such a thread??). For a long time everyone thought, including me, that the developers were working on the second part (Arx Fatalis 2, on the Source engine), but it turns out that they are working on the Might and Magic Dark Messiah game. By the way, the release is scheduled for the summer of 2006.

For those who are interested, here is (http://www.crpg.ru/base.php?op=showcontent&id=55) a link to the game Arx Fatalis.

Just a link. (http://www.crpg.ru/categories.php?op=newindex&catid=286&topic=41)

In the world of Might and Magic, yet another new continent was discovered, which had not been mentioned before. It is called Ashan, and any resemblance to the French hypermarket chain of the same name is, of course, purely coincidental, especially considering that the new game is being made by the French company Arkane Studios (previously noted for the game Arx Fatalis). Moreover, official information can be understood in such a way that Ashan is not even a continent, but a whole separate new world, it is not clear how connected (and connected at all) with the previous one, well known from almost a couple of dozen independent games and add-ons in two genres - RPG (Might and Magic) and strategy (Heroes of Might and Magic). By the way, the new game (as you can guess from its name) is neither one nor the other, but belongs to a new genre - action with a first-person view (the developers claim that in games on fantasy themes this is something unique, which, however, let me doubt - I remember that some showdowns on swords with a first-person view were still in late nineties). And what's more - all future games of the Might and Magic series should also take place in this very Auchan.

So what happens? The world is new, the developer is new (previously it was New World Computing), even the genre is new. The question is, what does Might and Magic have to do with it? Why honestly not start a new series under a new name? No, of course, I understand that it is much easier to sell a popular brand, but this in itself is not a sufficient reason to appropriate someone else's name, even if it was honestly bought from the previous owner. However, it is possible that some bridges between the old and the new world will still be found in the game, but so far neither the developers nor the publishers have reported anything specific about this.
But they report that Auchan is a darker place than all the previous ones. It is populated more and more by orcs, goblins, trolls, dragons, various undead and other equally pleasant audience (including very large ones).
In general, Ashan's past is terrible and bloody, and the future is completely apocalyptic, at least according to the dark prophecy announcing the coming of the Dark Messiah. People there, however, are still caught too. And a hero named Sareth, in the shoes of which you are invited to climb, just belongs to those. He is a hero, as usual in fantasy, in every sense. Raised and raised by a powerful sorcerer, trained in the use of both magic and conventional weapons - all for the future victory over the aforementioned Dark Messiah. However, something there in his heroic past is unclean. And as the plot develops, he will have to find out this past. (Yes, yes, as well as in a couple of hundred other games using the same cliche. Amnesia is such an occupational disease of heroes. It is, however, understandable - they are often hit on the head. ) And as a result of these clarifications, he may very well refuse from the initially set tasks. And, as I suspect, almost become this Dark Messiah himself.
All this is a campaign of 12 levels. There are more than 40 types of weapons at your disposal, including swords, bows, daggers and sticks, as well as several dozen spells that allow you to use both brute force and stealth tactics (but since the genre is clearly defined as action, the main thing is still winning in battles). It looks like there will be hand-to-hand combat with combos as well. However, the game will still retain certain RPG elements from its predecessors with a set of combat experience and a corresponding improvement in characteristics (such as health, speed, ability to withstand blows, etc.) and access to new skills, equipment, combo attacks and spells .
Another circumstance that distinguishes the new game from the previous ones - and the circumstance is definitely positive - is the engine on which it's all done - both physical and graphical. This side has long been weak in Might and Magic, but now Valve's Source engine, developed for Half-Life 2, is used. This allows you not only to swing your sword in first person, but to do it (and more) on a very decent level of physical and visual realism. We are promised an interactive external environment and cool AI.

There will be several multiplayer modes, including dynamic online campaigns that allow you to accumulate experience and equipment from game to game. Fans of network games do not have to be limited to the role of a person - they can join the undead as well; In total, 4 classes of characters will be available to players. Up to 32 players can participate in one battle.
It will be possible to assess the world of Might and Magic that has changed beyond recognition in 2006.

Here is what they write about playing in Igromania:

Dark Messiah of Might&Magic

Genre: Action/RPG
Publisher/Developer: Ubisoft/Arkane Studios
Release date: spring-summer 2006

To be honest, until the very last days and the very final minutes, I remained in absolutely blissful ignorance . The folder of press releases (in German, of course) that was handed to me by a kind PR guy from Ubisoft contained one small piece of yellow paper. On it, after thousands of German hieroglyphs incomprehensible to a mere mortal, there was a small postscript: “13:00 - World premiere in Leipzig: brand-new game in Might & Magic universe”.
It was decidedly impossible to understand what the publishers had in mind. The world premiere of the fifth "Heroes" from "Nival" was already at E3, and there was not only news, but even any reliable rumors about any other games in this universe (see, for example, the last issue of our column "Hot line: Games”).
At eleven o'clock and exactly twenty minutes everything became clear. In the vicinity of the Ubisoft booth in the third hall of the Leipziger Messe, all the lights suddenly went out and a loud voice in pure English said: “Ladies and gentlemen! .. Gabe Newell!”. On a huge monitor suspended somewhere under the ceiling, the face of the father of all Half-Life suddenly appeared. In complete silence, Gabe (who has put on perhaps ten more pounds since the release of last year's main game) talked about how he had always been a big fan of the Might & Magic series, that he had always been impressed by this universe, that he, despite his past statements about a sharp hatred for any manifestations of fantasy, thinks not at all like that ... In general, I will not bother you with unnecessary details, friends (especially since you can find the full version of Gabe's appeal to the people in the current issue of Videomania). I'll go straight to the main point.
So, this newest game in the revived universe is called Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and it will be nothing more than an action (!) with a first-person view (!!), and even on the Half-Life 2 engine - the famous Source (here please put the number of “!” characters yourself).
To be honest, we as a whole editorial team remembered about two hours and came to the conclusion that the last normal “fantasy” action-with-a-view-from-the-eyes that took place in the industry was the ever-memorable Hexen. And he came out ... damn, already ten years ago! What then is Dark Messiah - the revival of the genre? It looks like it.
Twelve giant levels, forty types of all kinds of weapons (swords, maces, spears, bows, crossbows, etc.), magic spells, decorative stealth elements. Sounds pretty good! The developers themselves (and this, by the way, is the French company Arkane Studios, who previously distinguished themselves by a very good role-playing game Arx Fatalis) proudly call their game “RPG with numerous action elements”. The editors of Igromania, having visited the official presentation of the game, tend to think differently.
Yes you listen! Scene number one: we are on top of some medieval castle, right on the edge of a precipice. A certain fantasy fear-man rushes about before our eyes, which for simplicity we will call “orc”. “Orc”, barely seeing us, throws up its mouth to heaven - long and piercing growls - after which it rushes at us with a cry (with a two-handed, by the way, sword at the ready). A long and drawn out fight ensues. Our hero deftly parries the side blows of the “orc”, deftly jumps back from the “attacks” and periodically defends himself with a shield. When the first round is played, he goes on the offensive: frantically pounding the "orc" on all parts of the body, trying to deliver a chopping blow - the cunning beast, however, deftly defends itself. At one fine moment, it happens that both opponents stand face to face for several seconds, clashing with swords. Sheaves of yellow sparks are pouring from under the blades, the “orc” grins contentedly for a moment, when suddenly ... A series of sharp chopping blows - from above, from the side, again from above ... this moment our character famously intercepts the sword in his fist and literally impales the reptile on the tip. After groaning for a second, the “orc” quietly expires, after which our hero rests his foot on his carcass and with an embroidered boot disgustively “cleanses” the body from the sword.
And after that they call this game “role-playing”! Well, look at scene number two. This time we are a magician, an elemental caster. Having given birth in the palms of the most magical beauty of a fireball, we deftly throw it into a neighboring barrel. A wooden rumble, a pile of chips and a pile of smoking fragments. Not bad for a start. Now let's practice on that flock of animated skeletons. Two powerful throws - and a platoon of bone soldiers, like skittles, scatters in different directions, observing all the laws of Newtonian physics, which are inappropriate here.
Needless to say, that, in addition to excellent physics, outwardly all the above action also looks like a solid “excellent”. The Source engine, as it turned out, does an excellent job of drawing “medieval interiors”: all these towers, stone walls and wooden carts look extremely authentic. What can we say about the monsters: every representative of the local fauna - from a small and extremely harmful imp to a huge fire-breathing dragon - can boast not only the shock content of polygons in its body, but also excellent animation.
The only thing in Dark Messiah that doesn't score ten out of ten is the story. According to legend, the Forces of Darkness, having united with the World Evil, have been waiting for the coming of the Dark Messiah for many years, who (already according to another legend) should lead the Black Alliance to world domination. (In human language, the entire preamble can be retold and shorter: “Scum crawled out from everywhere and began to eat good people”). We, of course, are the Hero of Heroes, a pupil of the oldest guild, who is given the difficult task of finding and neutralizing all the evil spirits, and in the end, killing the Dark Chief Gad. Here it is. Although, by the way, what did you want from the Might&Magic universe? New "Crime and Punishment"? Standard fantasy story, nothing more.
Summarizing all of the above, we can draw a simple and obvious conclusion. In the state in which the game is today, it is a 100% hit, one of the contenders for the game of the year, the best RPG in the universe, and so on ... However, the most optimistic date for the release of Dark Messiah today is next spring. During this time, we hasten to remind you, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and a couple of other lesser-known role-playing titles will already be released. And in order not to become hopelessly obsolete during this time, the “Messiah” needs to be head and shoulders above everyone else. And we really hope that he succeeds.

At such moments, the enemies usually
try to frighten us and begin to roll their eyes
ferociously . Teaching a spider with high voltage is not only

effective, but also terribly fun

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Risen from France! (preview)

Auchan. What it is? Let's think logically. What would you call the word Auchan? We propose to immediately discard the vulgarities associated with the German film industry. After a long mental process, we came to the conclusion that this is the name of the island in the game Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Now, most likely, thoughts have appeared on the theme of the familiar name of the
game, namely the "Might and Magic" part. So, Auchan is an independent world, in no way connected with previous projects from the Might and Magic series. And the previously mentioned Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is a first-person action game developed by the French who bought the rights to the big name "Might and Magic", because for sure, the name that has long been on everyone's lips,

Standard or something new?

Now we will tell you about the plot, and you will decide for yourself how original it seemed to you. There is a "beautiful and bright" island of Ashan, whose inhabitants are mostly dull-headed orcs, trolls and other cream of society, but naturally there is also a small group of people fighting for their existence in this hostile environment and its local fauna.

The whole life of the protagonist consists of endless training in military affairs, and this is because once upon a time, when he was still very young, he became the chosen one (not to be confused with the Matrix and Fallout) for some paramount purpose. An ancient prophecy predicted the appearance of the Black Messiah, who decided to create his own hell in this world. And, of course, only one person is able to stop this arrogant beast.

Sareth is such a cute name that you will be given the use of very long hours spent playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. The single-player campaign features 12 huge levels that will require mental effort to complete, and not just brute force of the run-and-gun class. In general, the player will have to progress through the story of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic alone, but in rare cases, he will be able to attach one or two NPCs to himself.

40 weapons?

Neither more nor less, but as many as forty types of various weapons are provided for the personal use of the player, here you have swords, bows, clubs, etc. To be honest, we have little idea how there can be forty types of absolutely unique weapons, and how they can be put on keyboard shortcuts. Probably, it is divided into types according to the following principle: an ordinary sword is one type of weapon, a sword with a burr on the right side of the blade is another type, etc.

The engine and other nice little things

The developers did not stint on a variety of ways to deal with adversaries, giving the player the opportunity to choose for himself his own unique style of massacre of the enemy. It can be as simple as the simplest, but sometimes spectacular - running into the open, throwing a sword over your head, and promoting silent killings a la Thief. Naturally,
present in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and such a useful thing as magic; 10 spells at our disposal, ranging from the most harmless and ending with tearing the opponent apart.

Imagine, for a second, silent first-person stealth kills. Now imagine them accompanied by excellent graphics, both in internal and external locations, and incredibly realistic physics, because the developers did not bother much and patented for their brainchild no less than the engine used in Half Life 2!

The last word

Ubisoft aims to release Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in the summer of 2006, but, unfortunately, this is very unlikely. This is the end of all the information currently known about the game. Stick around and you will definitely find out more, as soon as we ourselves learn about the project this ghostly "more".

I never really played fantasy games, but as soon as I saw TES4: Oblivion, Dark Messiah, HMM5, I immediately "fell in love" with them (and somehow I accidentally watched Lord of the Rings 3 in the same week))). Now I'm looking forward to all these 3 games, but most of all I really like Dark Messiah Source. And the videos impressed me a lot.
