Doom 1 and 2 and Quake 1 (not the second and not the third, namely the first) is the most atmospheric of old action games-shooters. In second place is Unreal (the first).
The RPG is, of course, the classics-masterpieces of Fallout 2 and Morrowind (but not oblivion, foul 3 or tactics).
Strategy is Heroes 3 (but not the fifth and not the fourth), Starcraft and C&C: Red Alert.
Quake 4 and Doom 3 were strikingly similar in terms of graphics and the portrayal of monsters, models, and it is nonsense. This should not be. Compare Ultimate Doom and Quake 1...
