CRC is only a verification code, it only speaks about data corruption.
If such an error occurs, then the reason may be a poor-quality storage medium (floppy disk, hard drive);
And what else I would do, it would check the hard disk for bad sectors:

Broken sectors can be checked and restored by Mona, but it will hardly bring the file back to life.

PS: if this error got out during installation, then look for the disk norms. And if you installed it, but it is buggy at startup, then restore (or at least mark) the broken sectors, and try reinstalling the game!
