Far Cry 6 is set in the fictional tropical country of Yar, located in the Caribbean. In order to collect the necessary references, the developers traveled to Cuba. Yara is ruled by dictator Anton Castillo, played by actor Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad).
50 years before the beginning of the events of Far Cry 6, a revolution took place in Yar, the victim of which was Anton's father - he was executed right in front of his son. Dozens of years of economic sanctions have brought the country into decline, and the dictator is confident that only the Castillo family is capable of returning his homeland to its former greatness. On the way to his goal, he does not disdain the most severe methods and is ready to harshly suppress any resistance.
The central theme of the game, according to Hawari, will be the relationship between Anton and his thirteen-year-old son Diego, played by Anthony Gonzalez ("Coco's Secret"). The player will have to find out whether the child will follow in the footsteps of his father.
- It was important for us to create a character who was born in the midst of the revolution and developed a perverse view of the world after the death of his father, but at the same time would be a father himself. I think there is something interesting in being in the same room with a dictator and watching him justify his actions, watching from his perspective.
Moreover, Anton is not just a person who runs the country. He is also a father who tries to teach cruel lessons to his son. At the same time, he loves Diego, wants him to grow up safe, and truly believes he is doing the right thing.

In an interview, Giancarlo Esposito spoke in more detail about his character and his motives. According to him, Anton is driven by his ability to control and manipulate. He asks his son “What is truth?â€; constantly repeats the same question: "True or false?" For Anton, truth is what leads to victory. “But does he always tell the truth himself?†Esposito asks.
Anthony Gonzalez, in turn, spoke a little about Diego. According to him, the life of a teenager revolves around the life of his father, so Gonzalez wanted to know as much as possible about Anton.

The main character will be Dani Rojas, who participates in the uprising against Anton. He grew up in Yar, but Ubisoft does not disclose how he is associated with the Castillo family, but Navid Hawari notes that this aspect is "very important." As in Far Cry 5, the player will be able to choose the gender of the protagonist, but this time the character will be fully voiced and animated using motion capture technology.
As stated in Ubisoft, Far Cry 6 will have the largest world in the series, and in addition, for the first time in the franchise, there will be a large city on the map - the capital of Yara, the city of Esperance.
