PSX 2017: How Sucker Punch Creates Ghost of Tsushima
During a panel on PSX 2017, Sucker Punch shared new details regarding the recently announced game Ghost of Tsushima. Key developers talked about various aspects of the work, noting that the trailer from the Paris week of games was made by the studio itself and all locations will be present in the game.
According to animation director Billy Harper, the hardest part was finding a "voice" to match the idea. Fortunately, Sucker Punch received help from the Japanese team to ensure that all aspects were respectful of Japanese culture. To achieve this, they even had to delete something, but they did not say what exactly.
To create the trailer, Sucker Punch even captured motion on real horses. A total of four horses were involved in the trial. The whole process was conceived not only for the trailer, but also as a test of whether the approach could be used for the game. It turned out that yes.
The developers noted that they decided to move away from the inFamous series in order to try something new, which they have not done for a long time. It's a big risk, but the team thinks it's worth it. When the project was launched, the entire studio came to life. In just the first month, excellent results were achieved thanks to the new energy.
The team says that while creating the game, they learn something new every day, trying to recreate a distant country from a deep past. Moreover, even for the Japanese themselves, this is an interesting topic, since Tsushima was not a famous place.
Art director Jason Connell loves samurai films, many of which took place during the Edo era. The approach to work on historical materials and costumes in the paintings inspires him to strive for historical reality, even with the fact that the plot of Ghost of Tsushima will be original. The game will not become a historical simulation, including fictional characters and events.
The Sucker Punch devs have visited Tsushima twice, in two separate lineups. The second time it was during the Mongol invasion festival, which was an amazing experience for the staff. The team even visited a local school to see Mongol artifacts.
During the trip, the developers accidentally met Nagamasa Sow - the direct heir to the Sow clan, who ruled the island during the invasion. Together with Sow, Harper exchanged business cards, images of which were leaked to the local newspaper Tsushima Shinbun, which could have leaked information about the game.
The studio collaborates with many people who advise them in various fields, including religion.
Ghost of Tsushima has not yet received a release date, but will be released exclusively on PS4.

Nio, Tsushima, the new project from the campaign will be the same in this style, straight AAA went to the settings of medieval Japan.

Let's say thanks to the success of Ni-oh, the developers finally paid attention to this beautiful setting.

Especially Saker Punchy, who started making their game long before Nioh was on sale)))

But Nioh was announced when Saker Punchy was still a child

By the time the nioh was announced, the sackers already had a trilogy of slays. Nioh has nothing to do with it, tecmo koei has released tons of games in the setting of China and Japan before, but in the west it was interesting to a very small number of players, even the historical yakuza were not released. So the choice of setting is pretty risky.

The setting itself does not solve anything, they have too bottom niche gameplay
Onimusha went well, and films about samurai were always held in high esteem, so the developed ones just stupid IMHO
What years are these? I'm talking about the events in the game. The Mongols invaded a couple of times, both in the thirteenth century, if I remember correctly.

Then it is not clear where the gg had such weapons and equipment. In short, not historical, but beautiful :)))

Tachi swords have been in use for three centuries at the time of the game, the o-yoroi armor is just coming into use, and gunpowder arrived with the Mongols. It is clear that there will be plenty of decorations and conventions, but I think they will not strongly contradict the spirit of the era.
In general, it is strange, such a bombing announcement, but only 4 pages were written. I am disappointed with hamagh.
